Introduction:
Raised to the ranks of Captain. Sailed around the world. President of the Veterans & Seaman's Society of Cayman Brac & Little Cayman. See attached for more details.
I nominate the above individual because he was also instrumental in the building up of this country by going to sea at the tender age of 17. Leaving home in Aug of 1957, he sailed with National Bulk Carrier as a Mess Boy, later moving up the ranks to Ordinary Seaman and after a short time promoted to AB Seaman. He expressed interest in navigation and was taught all about this by his Captain at the time. The news got out about his diligence, hard work and honesty and was sought out. He applied for the position of Chief Mate to sail with Thompson Shipping. During his time there he sailed the Brac Express after being promoted to Captain. He went on to Captain bigger ships such as the Tarrus Fir and The Tropic. He officially received his Captain's license in 1989.
It is very hard to put into words what exemplifies him however, I can say hard work, commitment, dedication and courage go a long way. It could not have been easy being away from family for such long periods, especially at such a young age.
Raising to the rank of Captain in such a short period is a testament to the individual that he is. He still exuberates a love for what he did in the way he talks about his time at sea.
