My father Capt. McCoy is Caymans longest serving international Capt. having had a seafaring career of over 65 years starting as a mess boy and becoming a Capt of a National Bulk carrier by the age of twenty five. During his international maritime career he commanded just about every type and tonnage of major ocean going ship from cargo to super tankers including a number of the largest tankers in the world from the Gulf of Mexico to Japan/Asia and all areas of the Americas and Far East. He has worked on a global level and visited too many ports of call to mention.
He has a multitude of internationally recognised certifications and and Master licence qualifications. Capt McCoy continued to update and keep current his skills at international levels until his retirement at age 80 yrs. While many Caymanian seafarers stopped going to sea he continue still at the top of his profession with an active career that spanned more than 6 decades.
Its hard to included all of his seafaring career accomplishment in 300 words ... let us just say he is Caymans undisputed and most experienced/qualified Captain of major ocean going vessels ... Just ask any of the seafarers and they will know who and the level of accomplishment achieved by Capt McCoy - he continues to be recognised in the international maritime circles. He is now retired and lives in North Side ... happily tending to his farm. I am confident he has contributed beyond measure to the maritime Hertiage of our islands and deserves the highest of recognition for his achievements as a Caymanian in the maritime sector.
