Introduction:

The following nomination is for Gentry Tatum from Cayman Brac. Gentry is probably the youngest (if not one of) Caymanian still at sea. Gentry Lee Tatum was born in Grand Cayman on February 3, 1984 to Edwin and Beverly Tatum, pastors of the Churches of God (Holiness) on Cayman Brac. He attended Layman Scott High School and went on to attend college at University of Alabama. In 2007, he began his seagoing career as an OS, Ordinary Seaman. He worked his way up to AB, Able Seaman, and then on to become a Tankerman. He presently works as a Tankerman, although he now holds a Third Mate license. Due to the tonnage of the ATBs that he works on, he can sail as Second or Chief Mate. Since he just acquired his Third Mate license, he has not moved into that position yet. He began his sea career with Martin Marine out of Houston, Texas. He worked out of ports in Central America, such as Belize and Panama. He has worked for Bouchard Shipping and the Kirby Corporation, all out of New York. He presently works for Moran Shipping out of New York where he has been for the past seven years.
