I am nominating
this person because he is my father and he went to work for Southwell Shipping
the company that hired Caymanians to go to work at sea back in the 1940s after
many, many years working at sea abroad, he returned to Grand Cayman and worked
on the Kirk Trader, Island Prince, the Reva Hirst and his last journey at sea
was on the Soto Trader where he lost his life on 4th April 1976 in an explosion
on board the Soto Trader in the engine room while the boat was discharging
cargo at Little Cayman. He was a pioneer who worked tediously at sea and
between Cayman Brac, Little Cayman, Grand Cayman Jamaica and other Caribbean
islands to deliver food supplies and hardware. He was well respected in his
field as an engineer and like many other seamen was very dedicated to his work
and served his country until his passing.
