Bio
Introduction:
I, Udith McField have nominated Edward Patrick McField , my late husband, for the above category of Pioneer 1940-1980 because of the important decision he made at an early age to leave his homeland, in order to provide financial support for his family.
He left home at the tender age of eighteen years ,never having travelled before, outside the Cayman Islands. He dedicated himself to his work and with the desire to improve his employment opportunities, he was able to advance to the position of Jr 3rd engineer.
Like many other Caymanians, Pat, as he was fondly called, saved and remitted his earnings to his family in Cayman thereby contributing immensely to the building and success of his homeland. He invested his earnings in the purchase of land, building materials and labour to provide shelter for his wife and children. Additionally, he was able to learn and develop skills in the engineering field which proved to be extremely valuable when, in 1968 he decided to transition to working as a shop manager in the automobile industry in Cayman.
While to many, being a seaman may have appeared to be an exciting way to see the world, we should never ignore the dangers associated with sailing the high seas, and those who made that choice, when the choices were limited must be given full recognition , hence our nomination of the late Edward Patrick McField.
