Introduction:
I nominate the above person for the above indicated category because of his meaningful and exemplary contribution as a Seafarer. Lewis embarked on his long and sacrificial Seafaring career at the tender age of eighteen years, following his service in the Cayman Islands Home Guard.
Lewis started his seafaring life with a trip to Mosquito Quay. This seafaring voyage was made with Captain Joseph Anglin. They went to pick up Turtlers and Fisherman. Lewis' next venture was an eighteen-month trip to Belize in search of employment. There, he worked on cargo ships, running between Belize, Tampa and Cuba. Next, was the trip with Lewis' father, Carlton Ebanks and Captain Reginald Parsons on board the Goldfield. At that time, the historic and beloved Caymanian schooner was running between Cayman and Tampa. In addition to general cargo, they brought home caskets and a car for Stafford Ebanks .
After this trip on the Goldfield, Lewis and his father moved on to work for the Suwannee Steamship Company. This was a Cargo Shipping Company that transported Bauxite from Guyana and Suriname to Trinidad.
In 1959, Lewis shipped out with Banite and Limbect Shipping Company . This was followed by employment with National Bulk Carriers through it's Shipping Agent Southwell. At this employment, Lewis held the ranks of Fireman, Oiler, Wiper and Junior Engineer. Lewis sailed on Ore Sature, Ore Meredian, Ore Neptune, Petroqueen and Albert G Brown. Fortunately, Lewis was sailing on the Albert G Brown on her one-day visit to ,Spotts, Grand Cayman and was able to meet with his family.
Lewis' roles during his Seafaring life bodes well for a man of his era, coming from "The Islands Time Forgot" - poor , uneducated but willing to work hard, make the necessary sacrifices for the good of family and country.
Lewis ended his Seafaring Career at approximately 1968, as he was then able to find employment work at home.
