Introduction:
Cecil Raymond Barnes like many men of his generation left Cayman at the tender age of 16 to seek employment as a seafarer. During his 11 years at sea, he sailed ships such as the Ore Transport, Gem Star and Petro Queen, working his way up to the role of Junior Engineer. On his first trip to sea, he stayed 3 years, while sending money home to his mother who saved his money to help him purchase and build his first home at 19. A goal he remained proud of until the day died. His travels left such an indelible mark, that he decided to name his daughter Tunisia, after one of the countries his visited in Northern Africa. Cecil Raymond Barnes, was a quiet man but personified Caymanian character of hardworking, humbleness and family centered. In the words of his fellow sailor "no other man could balance a ship like Raymond"
