I wish to nominate the above person, who is my dad, for the above indicated category. He started his sea life with his first trip at the tender age of 16 to Miskita Cay with Mr. Andrew Powery in 1950 and he made two more trips in 1951 and 1952 with Mr. Hartley Ebanks and Mr. Joseph Ebanks. In 1953 he joined the National Bulk Carriers as his first trip to Brazil. While with National Bulk Carriers he received his Third Mate license in New York in 1962. He worked with National Bulk Carriers from 1953 to 1965 and sailed on all Oil Tanker ships. In 1965 he received his American residence papers and started working that same year on an American ship. The last American ship he worked with was the Marine Duval which he started with in 1978. They transported liquid sulphur. He remained on this ship for the last 19 years of his seaman's career. He worked on the American ships from 1965 until 1997 when he retired from his sea life. He has held positions as a Third Mate, a Bosun, and an AB on Deck. He really enjoyed his days as a seaman, and he travelled all over the world. He was a hard and dedicated worker. The stories that he told wasn't of a very easy life being away from his family at long periods at a time and sometimes years. He went through storms at sea not knowing if he would make it through alive, but he continued and was determined to provide for his family. He truly loved that life of a seaman and dedicated 47 years as a seaman. I believe he should be recognized and is well deserving of this Award in Turtling and Seafaring Excelled at Sea (40+ years of Service). He would be humbled to be nominated for this special Award.
