My grandfather William Allen Ebanks of the district of West Bay was described as one of Cayman's prominent "Sons of the Sea" by those who shared the same experience. As a young man Uncle Allen as he was fondly known spent many years at sea, at the Turtling grounds with other "Iron Men in Wooden Ships". He did this for many years as the sea was his first love. After the turtling trade was abolished he joined ships in the USA where he worked many years seeking a livelihood for his family.
