ANOTHER EVENT OCCURRED ON THE CLARA MAERSK WHERE MR. AVERY HAD A GUN HELD TO HIS HEAD WHILE PIRATES RAIDED THE SHIP WHILE IN MANILA DURING A TYPHOON. THEY STOLE ALL OF THE SHIP EQUIPMENT LEAVING THEM WITH ONLY THEIR SPARE SUPPLIES.
ON THE SWEDISH SHIP SCANTHIOD, WHILE ABOUT TO SAIL TO VIETNAM, THE PILOTS CONFUSED HIS SHIP AND THE ESSO ADVENTURER. THE PILOT WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ON HIS SHIP TOOK OFF FIRST TO SAIL AND ENDED UP HITTING A MINE AND DESTROYING BOW OF THE SHIP. IF THE PILOTS WENT TO THE CORRECT SHIPS MR. AVERY WOULDN'T BE HERE TODAY. HIS SHIP HAD AVIATION SPIRITS ON IT AND IF IT HAD SAILED INTO MINE, THE SHIP WOULD EXPLODED.
HE WAS A HARDWORKING SEAFARER AND HAS MANY STORIES TO TELL AND WAS COURAGEOUS IN HIS TIME AT SEA AND STAYING CALM WHILE A GUN WAS HELD TO HIS HEAD BY PIRATES IN MANILA.
