Introduction:
I, Thomas Parsons, Jr., hereby nominate Thomas Henry Parsons for Excelled at Sea on behalf of his 3 sons. He leant his craftsmanship as an Engineer whilst working and studying, obtaining his Chief Engineer license with unlimited tonnage. Thomas Henry Parsons worked his entire adult like on the Sea. He sailed on the Cayman Schooner Goldfield for years with his father, Captain Reginald B. Parsons. Henry, as he was called, was born 20th February 1928 at home in Mount Pleasant, West Bay, Grand Cayman. He went to work with Sewannie Steam Ship Company of Jacksonville, Florida where he worked his way up to Ship's Engineer Diesel Engines. In 1968, Henry and the family went to Brazil to work for Astro Marine Limited as Chief Engineer on their oil rig supply vessels. Henry went to work with Belcher Oil in 1970 as port engineer working his way up to Chief Port Engineer as he earned his Chief Engineer license unlimited tonnage. He earned high marks as he was exceptionally talented when working on engines. Euro Pirates Limited in Brazil reached out Henry to as their Chief Engineer on an oil rig supply vessel, for a period of 18 months. The family followed and remained in Brazil until December of that year. His family moved to Grand Cayman in January 1976. After his contract for with Euro Pirates ended, Henry flew to Cayman to surprise his family in Bodden Town where they were living. Henry then went work for Miami Diesel as President. He worked as Chief Engineer for Miami Towing, which took him to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as their work was with the US Navy. He went to work for Mar Marine in Ft Lauderdale as Chief Engineer on their research vessel for the US government. Upon Mar Marine closing down, he went to work for Kirk Freight Line in Grand Cayman as Chief Engineer on the M/V Kirk Challenger. In 1986, Kirk sold the Challenger Vessel. That same year, CUC offered Henry a position as Shift Charge Engineer, remaining with CUC until his retirement in 1996. He then worked with Ocean Conversion as engineer for two years, finally really retiring in 2000 at the age of 72. Henry Parsons excelled at his career in the Maritime field, starting as a deckhand on the Goldfield on up to Chief Engineer Diesel Unlimited. By his dedication, he built up the reputation that Caymanians made the best Seafarers in the Maritime Industry!
