Joined the ship in Philadelphia and sailed to Puerto Ordas, Venezuela. I was so seasick that I tried to leave the ship as soon as we arrived at the first port. Captain Ringleman told me to go back aft and throw up as much as I wanted, but he was not going to sign me off. His advice proved to be right for me as I stayed for 23 months. I was discharged in Mobile, Alabama, because of illness. I had surgery in Mobile before coming home.
