I nominate Capt. Owen because he has made many contributions as a seafarer and he should be recognized. There are a few of the incidents that he has shared with me which makes him worthy of special recognition. On one of his turtle voyages, he received a call from the captain of a scrimping vessel, telling him that a group of shark fishermen from Honduras were out of water and food. They were asking Capt. Owen to rescue them. Capt Owen spoke to his crew and explained what was happening. They sailed as planned, and this meant sailing through some dangerous waters at night, but this is what they had to do to get to these Rangers. These men some 15 in number, were fishing from Cartaska Cays which are located East of the Hobbies Cays, which are charted. They sailed for over 20 consecutive hours to reach to the rangers. This incident helped in forging a stronger relationship between the Cayman Islands and Honduras.
People like Capt. Owen, deserve to be publicly recognized for all of his contributions.
