Mr. Osley Claudia Ebanks, born Sept 29, 1930, the eldest son, to parents Captain Solomon McCherry Ebanks and Mrs. Editha Ebanks of West Bay, Grand Cayman.
He started going to Moskito Cayes at the tender age of 8 years old, however his first real voyage at the age of 17 was on the 'Merco' where his father Solomon McCherry Ebanks was the Captain.
He later worked with a company named The Buccaneer Line on the ship called the 'Privateer research ship for a few years. He also sailed on the Ore Mercury and the Ulysses. It was on one of these voyages that he was passing off West Bay Grand Cayman and blew the ships horn 3 times for his mother, who knew he was passing by on that particular day. His brother went out to the ship in a boat with 2 friends and Mr. Osley passed down a hand of plantains and US$20.00 to take for his mother.
He sailed with National Bulk Carriers from Nov 1954 until 1962. He rose through the ranks from an ordinary seaman to the post of Navigator up until he left the company. He loved going to sea from the time he was a young boy. Being on the sea was his life's passion.
After he left the shipping life of the sea he spent most of his days and nights fishing on board his two fishing vessels called 'Mars' & 'Sammy Davis' and would supply the entire Mount Pleasant area of West Bay and other parts of the island with fish he caught.
Mr. Ebanks was united in marriage to Mary Parchmon from Guanaja Honduras on Oct 4, 1956 and together they had 3 sons and 1 daughter. They remained married up until his tragic passing in Hurricane Ivan in 2004
Here is a list of all the ships he sailed on:
