Started seafaring career in 1934, catching turtles off the Mosquito Keys. In the early 1940's he volunteered and served with the British Navy (stationed in Trinidad and referred to as 'Trinidad's Navy') until the war ended in 1945. After the war, he went to the United States searching for employment, after receiving Green Card and citizenship he continued sailing out of the United States until 1969- during this period he traveled to all major seaports in the United States. He also shipped out to Japan, South Africa, Holland, France, China, Persian Gulf, Egypt, Italy and many other ports around Europe and Asia.
