The Kirkconnell name in the Cayman Islands is synonymous with seafaring, shipping administration, and ship building. In 1886 Walter Aaron Kirkconnell began building a 40-ton two master schooner named "Evaswift" on Cayman Brac. His sons, grandsons, and great grandsons have followed in his footsteps.
His great grandson, Michael Gerald Kirkconnell, should be recognized as one who has "Excelled at Sea." Mike accompanied his father and uncles aboard the Kirk Line ships when he was a teenager. Before he was 25 years old, Mike had passed his exams and fulfilled all the requirements for his license as MASTER MARINER, the highest grade of seafarer qualification. Mike captained the M.S. Kirksons, as well as the KirkFram and Kirk Express.
