Like most seamen of Mark's era, he got "the call" to join National Bulk Carriers as an OS for employment and help boost the economic development of the Cayman Islands. One fateful day on 6/12/1960 his ship, Sinclair Petralore blew up and he was severely burned. Nonetheless, he survived and after being hospitalized in Fortaleza, Brazil, for 1 month, he returned home. After recuperating at home, he braved up and went back to sea as a messman and AB on SS Ore Chief, Ore Transport.
