I'm nominating my Grandfather because he took pride in his contributions as a Nation Builder of his country, as a World War II Veteran and a Seaman. Although he didn't talk much about his experience in either careers especially the War, he proudly displayed his metals and expressed (with tears sometimes) his honor to serve and contribute. Just a teenager, he started his Seafaring career as a Turtler and sailed on the Convey.
Here at home he worked on the Dredge and then on the Cruise ship Tenders until he had to retire from his "Sea Life" after being injured in an accident on the Tenders. He fell and was crushed between two Tenders or a Tender and the dock (I can't remember which). His career path then took him to work for Kirk Home Center until his final retirement. This injury caused him to have to take medication for Angina for the rest of his life as his doctor advised he would need to since he might suffer a massive Heart Attack and which he did in August 2008.
There are times in a persons life when they would rather not talk about their hardships since their audience would not understand where they are coming from or what they are talking about or they are too humble and think that it would be boasting if they tell their story. This seemingly was the views of my Grandfather but I wish he knew how important his story and contributions are to his country and family. Unfortunately hurricane Ivan stole my notes and I can't remember all of the details but I love my Grandfather and is very proud of him. I would like him to be honored as he is deserving of. Thank you!
