I nominate the above person for the above category because it is my opinion that he excelled at sea with his achievements and also for the strong support and guidance that he provided many young Caymanian men who sailed with him. He left Cayman at around the age of 16 years with very basic education to begin his seafaring career as did most Caymanian men at the time and, by his late 30s reached the pinnacle of his career as Chief Engineer. He started as an Ordinary Seaman then Able Seaman with merchant vessels trading between Cayman and Jamaica up to 1954, he later joined National Bulk Carriers and began the journey to his dream of becoming a Chief Engineer. Starting at the bottom in the engine room, as a Wiper then Oiler, he moved progressively up over the years. By 1957, he was a junior engineer and by 1959, he was licensed as a Third Assistant Engineer. In 1963 he sailed as a Second Assistant Engineer and by 1968 was licensed as a First Assistant Engineer. By 1969, the nominee achieved his lifelong dream to become a Chief Engineer able to control the engines of some of the largest iron ore and oil tankers of that period. Throughout the years, he assisted many Caymanians to achieve their own seafaring goals. Some of the vessels the nominee sailed on are S/S Universe Kuwait; S/S Bulktrader; S/S Bulkoil; S/S Phoenix; S/S Ore Transport; S/S Ore Chief; S/S George Champion; S/S Ore Neptune; S/S Commonwealth; S/S Bulk Oceanic; S/S Cedros Regent; and S/S Universe Daphne. The nominee retired in 1979 and then taught marine engineering and electrical subjects at the Technical School established by National Hero Jim Bodden at ICCI, he served there for a few years until it closed for lack of interest.
