Introduction:
He started his seafarers career in 1922 catching turtle at Miskito keys. He then sailed with Captain Bodden on sailing schooners. While in the port of New Orleans 1939 a call came in for volunteers for the British Merchant Marine Service he signed up for the duration of the war because he wanted to help his mother country any way he could. He signed on the SS Haughton Hall a British freighter. Her name was changed to Stanpark. In January 1941 he was captured off the coast of Freetown, Africa and became a POW. Later he was taken to a German concentration camp for the duration of the war in 1945. After a short stay at home he started shipping out again. During the Korean war he made two trips there. He continued sailing until 1977. During his career he sailed on tankers,schooners,freighters, tug boats, and a passenger ship by the name of the Newfoundland. Here are some of the places he sailed to including Germany, Italy, France, Japan, China, Holland,Egypt Australia, Ireland, England, Persian Gulf, Canada, Central and South America, the Caribbean and all major ports in the USA.
