Capt Ebanks started his seafaring career as Sailor on the Merco, at 15 years of age in 1960, under his father Hayman Allen Ebanks' wing and guidance; he worked his way up the ranks to Chief Mate. In his mid-twenties he received his British Master Mariners License after passing the exam in Belize. The first ship he captained was the Hulda, sailing from Jamaica to Nova Scotia, Canada. After that he sailed on the Majester sailing between the Cayman Islands, Honduras and various ports throughout the Caribbean. He also sailed on the Temac, Dominion Trader, Snabel, Lewbell and Daviton of Lewis Lines based in Jamaica. In 1976 he transferred to Port of Cortes in Honduras as Port Captain after doing so in Kingston, Jamaica. In 1977 he returned to Grand Cayman and the following year he started working the Port Authority for the next 24 years in the warehouse and then on to Supervise the Cargo Distribution Center.
